Cuore verde tra due laghi

Chestnuts used to be called “the bread of the poor” and were an important source of nourishment for the local population. Moreover, in the past every single part of the chestnut plant was utilized fully: its wood was used to make furniture, its branches were burned to warm homes, and its leaves were used as fertilizer and to make animal beds.

Many local recipes use chestnuts: chestnut risotto, chestnut gnocchi, and chestnuts with milk are only a few of many examples.
